2022-06-24 21:26:36

 Project Background

Located on the west coast of the Red Sea, the Rabid Phase III Project will use the world's advanced reverse osmosis technology and produce 600,000 cubic meters of water per day, providing basic water for about 3 million residents of Major Saudi cities such as Jeddah and Mecca. It is an important livelihood project in Saudi Arabia. The Labig PHASE III desalination plant is considered to be the most environmentally friendly desalination plant in the world due to its unique characteristics, as it consumes the lowest amount of electricity and has the lowest noise during daily operation.

International water markets increasingly need innovative products and infrastructure to meet global demand.

On March 31, Rabigh 3, the world's largest desalination plant, opened in Saudi Arabia, with WEG as a supplier of motors and frequency converters. The successful project was hailed by the Guinness Book of World Records as "the world's largest reverse osmosis desalination plant".

WEG's technical expertise in partnering with large engineering companies has led WEG to participate in this impressive project, from water collection, pretreatment, reverse osmosis process to post treatment, providing motors and frequency converters for the major processes of these water production chains.

WEG's product portfolio consists of 69 electric motors and 50 medium voltage variable frequency drives, supplied through a general contracting company comprising Abengoa, SIDEM and SEPCO III, which is responsible for the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the plant.  WEG's strategy of doing business with large engineering companies ensures new supply in the Middle East and beyond.
